AC97 on my Shuttle AK31 r3.1

Howcome the onboard audio drivers don't work right? i'm using the newest ones under winXP and it plays everything at this awful sounding sampling rate, i've tried multiple bioses, every revision of the driver, all with no luck, what's going on?

Well, AC97 is pretty piss poor, and you will likely not find better drivers than the ones that cam with your motherboard.
