Hey all,

I noticed in the BIOS there's a setting to disable the AC97 onboard audio on my P4T-E mainboard. Now, I have a soundcard I use (Audigy...soon to switch to Audigy 2). Currently in the BIOS it's set to Auto. I was wondering - would I get any performance boost by disabling it? If so, might as well, but if not, may as well leave it enabled. lol.

LOL, to me, there shouldnt be a performce boost based on enabling or disabling the BIOS auido detect function. I think the performance would be based on what audio card/setup you're using/coming from that card. Since your not using the onboard sound setup, try and turn it off. Since its also set to AUTO, your system should'nt be using the onboard audio, it's defaulting to the audigy. hey check the device manager and see if any drivers are installed for the onboard audio = if there is, then disable it since your going to leave the audigy in. If there isnt any drivers for the onboard instaalled, then experiment, if you plug some speakers into the onboard jack and you do hear sound, your pc may be possessstah!

It's been on Auto literally since I've had the PC, but I'll go ahead and disable it for fun and see how things go. Thanks for the tips!

Disabled it. Drivers disappeared from Windows. No worse for wear and maybe better. In fact, my speakers used to crackle a little bit when I adjusted volume (manually that is), and that appears to be better for some reason. Huh. heh. =oP Thanks for the tip.
