ac power supply?

OK. I hope this isn't too obvious of an answer, but I just wanted to make sure I'm thinking this through correctly...

I think my AC adapter randomly died. My laptop (Thinkpad T41) runs off the battery, but when I plug it in to the adapter that came with my laptop, it does not charge/no plugged-in indicators go on.

I now have it hooked up to my roommate's AC adapter (HP model hooked up to a travel surge protector,) and the battery is charging.

That means it's my ac adapter, right?

I'm also really just curious a) why it would have randomly stopped working b) is there anything bad about using a different brand of adapter and c) if there's something else that could be going on...

Boy, this sounds kinda ditzy.... but I just wanted to cover all bases.

Thank you!
Nicole

It does sound like your AC adapter.

I would not use a different model AC adapter, as it probably charges at different rates, different voltages, etc. Not good for your battery
