I had one go out a few weeks ago. The outdoor unit would kick on but the fan wouldn't run. I know it's the capacitor. But I have no way to verify and there's an elderly woman who needs air in the house.

Call for service. $275 and 20 minutes later, the new capacitor is installed. Definitely need to keep a couple of them on hand.

$275, another gouge job, that should be a $125-150 repair, file a notice on Angies list or BBB about the high rates...

I love you guys. I learn so much..the only bad thing is i learn them late LOL

good thread though. i am going to order a capacitor as a spare. I just spent $180 getting it fixed. then a week latter another $250 to replace the motor on the fan.

BTW the boat? looks like crap you fixing it up?

Oh, someone had it on CL for $350, bought it before I had a chance. The 75HP Johnson outboard is worth twice that alone if it can be made to run OK..

for $350? nice. my dad spent a bunch on a 10hp for his fishing boat. i wouldn't want to see what a nice 75hp would be.

That boat looks awesome, it needs a wood "pirate ship" steering wheel though. :D And holy crap did not realize AC capacitors were that huge. I'm sure they can hold quite a lot of juice. Throw a couple charged ones in with packing peanuts and send to someone you hate.
