AC ATI Silencer 4 or 5

i have the x800xt with the r420 chipset i think, but im not sure how i can tell teh difference... just that the ati tool i downloaded tells me that

anyways

should i get teh silencer 4, because it says its made for r420 chipsets but, the silencer 5 says its made for all versions of the x800 so im not sure which one to get...

I had the same question a while back. Went with the 4 and it fits perfectly and is an easy install. Can't comment on the 5.

is there a actual difference between 4 and 5, or it 4 and 5 the same thing just, for different types of x800?

The AC ATI Silencer 5 is a lot lighter (156g versus 390g), and has a better back plate... I'd get that one... It'll fit your card perfectly...

The 4 is for the x800 series, and the 5 is for the x850 series. I havent tried any on my card, but that's what the specs say.

Well on Arctic Cooling's website . . . they list the compatibility for the ATI Silencer 5:

AGP & PCIe:
ATI X800 (all versions, except AIW)
ATI X850 (all versions, except AIW)

So according to the AC website, the Silencer 5 should be compatible with all X800/X850 series cards both AGP & PCI-E (except AIW series) . . .

So based on that information I would say there is no reason not to get ATS 5 over ATS 4 . . .

Thanks everybody for the posts i think ill think ill get the silencer 5, i thought maybe the difference in chipset might have mattered but whatever.... if it works then ill post up and let ppl use it for future ref

well i finally got my silencer 5 and it installs perfect... although its really quiet i dont really notice a temp difference.... btw what are normal running temperatures that everybody have... not gaming
