Hey folks --

I have a SmartDisk VST FireWire CDRW (model FWCDRW-V8) and got an IBM
IEEE 1394 CardBus card to run it off my laptop. To my dismay, I
discovered that the CardBus card will not supply the CDRW with power,
so I need to buy an AC Adapter.

Does anyone have this adapter and can tell me what the voltage is? It
is probably something I could pick up at Radio Shack. Alternatively,
might it be possible to steal the power from another port on the
laptop (USB or PS/2)? I'm not concerned with draining the battery,
since I'll never burn when I'm not plugged in.

Any help would be appreciated!

cheers,
shoOz

Right - laptop Firewire ports are 4-wire ones - no power provided. I have an external CDRW on my lappy, but it came with its own power brick. Anyway - here are the specs from it: (QPS QueFire!)

Made in China by Rexon
Input: 100-240 Vac, 0.6 A, 50/60 Hz
Output: + 5 Vdc @ 1.5 a
+ 12 Vdc @ 1.5 a

The critical part is the connector. You need to look at what your drive requires.
