AC adapter for my ext HDD fried

I bought a generic Firewire/USB combo enclosure and a 200GB 7200RPM 8MB cache Seagate HDD.

It worked fine for a few days, then I noticed my drive wasn't in "my computer" anymore today. Everything's plugged in correctly. After checking everything, the green lamp on the power adapter is out and there is no voltage coming out.

Has this happened to anyone here?

The exact same situation hasn't happened to me... but sometimes if you buy a cheap enclosure and leave the hard drive running for long amounts of time, a heat problem is created and can cause some damage.

Also, cheaper built-in power supply's are usually not able to accommodate to the varying AC levels of residential areas for long amounts of time...

slave up the seagate and see if it still works fine... but as for your enclosure... sounds like its toast

The power supply is external. It plugs into the wall, there's the power supply and the DC connector hooks up to the enclosure. I got the power supply exchanged, but I'm afraid this one will fry again soon.
