The other thing to say is that all well and fine for Sarah Palin to not abort a mentally defective child because she can afford it. But when its comes to families with less opulent means, its more than most families can afford.

And unless Bristol Palin had strings pulled by her mother, she would just another unwed mother living in poverty.

Is it, though? There are tons of state resources available to children with disorders. Sure it will be harder but always is with a kid who has problems.

What are you talking about Doppel, in the last 10-15 years any social safety net for such families no longer exist. A downs syndrome child will need help for the rest of their life, never be a fully functioning adult, and government has yanked any social network help for such families largely because of GOP policies.

Abstinence only sex-ed is like a hunter's safety class that tells you never to practice marksmanship, because the only shot that matters is the shot that kills.

There was never abstinence only education in Alaska and Sarah never endorsed abstinence-only education or pushed to have it schools.

and i know its wiki but:

Hmmm I did a google search and I have to admit the only things I saw connecting Palin to abstinence-only were left-wing blogs. Does anyone have any original sources that show she only supports abstinence-only?

Doesn't it seem somewhat of an act though? It's like she goes out of her way to portray ignorance and 'golly gee whiz' schtick at every opportunity, but it doesn't quite seem sincere to me.

Oh, it's obvious that she's acting and pushing an image, but the stupidity isn't a part of it. I read it that she has responded to Conservative Talk's constant protection of her (which is needed every time she opens her mouth), and is pushing the folksy image to them to project, "Haha, see? I agree with you! So we're all together in this! So please keep defending me! I'll be nice to you in return!" (Standard "pretty girl" social manipulation.) But it seems she's too stupid to have noticed that she's not Conservative Talk's Madonna anymore -- she's not actually in the ingroup. They defend her to keep the Tea Partiers happy and they still push her brand in that market, but they do not push her brand broad-spectrum. Too many people have noticed that she's a complete idiot, and no amount of media manipulation is going to change those opinions, so she's damaged goods to them.
The Conservative political propaganda machine has moved on. She might catch on in a year or so.

Nice to see them get married to raise the child as he/she should be. A mother and father bound by law and god.

If only urban youths could have such character and conviction. But no, to do so takes away their gubment money.

$20 says it lasts a few years at best.

do you have any direct insight into what she did, or did not, tell her children about sex?

it may come as a shock, but sometimes, children do what they want to do regardless of what they've heard from their parents/teachers/whoever.

personally, I don't think my parents ever said a word about sex in our house. and yet somehow, I've never engaged in unsafe sex and my sister didn't get pregnant until she was 29 and had been married for a year.

What we do know is abstinence only in her family is an abject failure.

What we do know is that girl is more them 2 months pregnent, just check out the pics. The fact they are saying she is only 2 months suggests he is getting pressured onto marrying.

Based on the AO track record maybe, just maybe the Palins should justr STFU about it.

Ironically, at the very same time, the "liberal political propaganda machine" continues to make her millions though...

Last I heard you could get a .gov check if you got your kid to convince his doc that he/she had ADD (not that hard to do). Am I wrong?

If one of those "urban youths" have a mother who's gotten rich sucking up to stupid conservatives who give her lots of money, says, "Listen I have a reputation to maintain. You two are going to get married. We'll lie about her due date and I'll give you some money."

A poor white couple from Arkansas in the same position, abortion or welfare.

how do you know that she advocated abstinence-only in her private life?

all of her public statements suggest that she supports contraceptives and contraceptive-education.

Shush, she is (R), her successes are accidental and her failures are a grand conspiracy.

Wow - Sarah raised a couple of whore daughters.

They get knocked up and then married. I had no ideas conservatives followed such a "loose" approach to marriage.

No way that 40% statistic is true.

http://www.newsweek.com/blogs/the-h...e-had-abortions-the-math-behind-the-stat.html

I don't usually cite blogs, but they at least do the math here. There is minor a problem with this measure, though. It does not count women who have had multiple abortions. In particular, when receiving in vitro fertilisation, several eggs are implanted because embryo survival is a crapshoot. In cases where several embryos survive, the parents often choose to abort all but one of them (when the mother doesn't, you get Octomom).

Edit: I should retract the Octomom statement. Her treatment was well outside the normal range, and the doctor had his license revoked. You almost never implant more than 2-3 embryos nowadays. Numbers were higher in the past when success rates were lower.
