Absolutely Epic Vegetation model

Are you going to make a thread every single time anything is done with the Cry Engine? :hmm: 😀

KT

No! There's lots of good stuff over on the crymod forum I don't post. But this dudes vegetation work is post worthy, imho.

So, there are people out there who sit down and say "Crysis looks good, but doesn't use enough system resources on trees. Let's fix that."?

Vegetation was a big deal with crysis (and also farcry before it), one of the original hypes was that it could reproduce near photographic quality of outdoor pictures, rocks, etc. So I can certainly understand why someone would work towards improving that goal.

The graphics are already good enough in crysis.. Work on the fucking plot ffs. I'm sick and tired of all of these cut and paste games with uber graphics to make up for how fucking shitty the storyline is. I was happy with graphics from games 5 years ago. It seems the more time companies spend developing these huge game engines, the less they put into the actual gameplay. I wish people would stop buying into this shit so we could see some worthwhile games come out..

That is beautiful. I can't wait until open world RPGs or even MMORPGs get to this level of detail. As if I need more reasons not to go to class.

Yeah, I'm going to have to go ahead and agree with you there.

No, this is the PC gaming forum and PC gamers like to push and push technologies, I think you will feel more at home here

Funny, I was under the impression this was a PC gaming forum, and thus for people who liked to actually *play* games on the PC.

Adding in a forest of 125k poly models to a game that already struggles with framerate isn't pushing technology - raising poly counts ain't anything new. Doing it in crysis, to this extent, thus ensuring a slideshow ain't gaming either.

Dude...look at your system...duh...

Look at my sig system...Crysis maxed everything 1800x1440 at 8x AA 45fps on average...its not that hard to run anymore...with a 4 year old graphics card it is...8800GTS...HA!

Way I see it, its an interesting guess at what games will look like a few years down the line, (assuming the hardware side doesn't stall entirely). Agree with the poster who wants better storylines though.

...

im assuming u have major mods or optimzations.

because if i did a raw install, load all settings to max, the game would still give my 980X with quadfire less then 60fps.

This.

GTX480 SLI is still dipping into the 30s with enthusiast shaders.

While that's certainly "playable", that's the same thing as describing a chick as "doable" or advertising a beer as "drinkable".

Fortunately, Crytek, when developing Crysis2, has spent a great deal of their time improving the game play of Crysis. They know it had faults. They're about gameplay now.

pushing technology is good, but games, overall have gotten shittier and shittier b/c all they care about is eye candy. Pushing depth would be better, imo. Stories are worse, writing gets worse and worse, characters are stale and cookie-cutter. They run along the same continuum as the movie industry these days--just getting dumber, sometimes prettier.

:\
