There is no 8bit 22".

All the 22" monitors on teh market use the same panel.

If you're going to go for a a 22" you should expect (as Basebomb suggested) that they are all very similar since they use an identical panel. Some integrate the panel better into the bezel, less backlighting, some have crappy stands, and some are more expensive than others. I'm still waiting on the Viewsonic VG2230WMVG2230WM I purchased, which I selected because it was in a comperable price range to the others like the Sceptre and the ChiMei(sp?) but comes with a superior stand. It also matches the look of the rest of my desktop well. Right now NE is selling it for ~$320, about twenty bucks more than the others I mentioned.

I have used both the Acer AL2216W and the Dell E228WFP (currently use) and I would overall recommend the Dell. It has a much better stand, and although it looks the same virtually I notice tad less backlight bleeding when the screen is entirely black. I'm always partial to Dell when it comes to screens cause I love my w3201c but for $300-ish this 22'' monitor was hard to resist, and I don't regret it at all.

As everybody said, all 22" panels use the same 6 bit TN film panel.

The best ones for me are: SAMSUNG 225BW and DELL 228WFP

Both are great...the Dell will show you a lil' bit more accurate colors right out of the box than the Samsung (not a great difference in accuracy in fact)...but after calibrating them, results will be the same on both.

Take into account the SAMSUNG stand height..is adjustable while the DELL's isn't...

Yeah, I haven't had a crack at the Samsung 22'' but as I said in another thread, the Dell's stand was superior to the Acer 22'' that I tried as well.

All the 22-inch widescreens use similar TN panels, but they are not identical.

The first one out the door was ChiMei, then Samsung. Samsung now has 2 distinct panels, the latest one being rated at 2ms. AU Optronics has 2 of them, including a newer one with wide color gamut (92%), but there is still no WCG 22-inch monitor available. LG-Philips have their own panel, to become available in their recently announced 22-inch monitor.

It is easy to assume that Samsung, LG and ChiMei use their own panel in their monitors. But I have not found a good source of info on what panels are in other brands, such as Viewsonic, Westinghouse, Dell.

Maybe a Dell E228 owner could have a look in the factory menu to look for the panel Mfgr/model.

This menu can be accessed as follows:

Powering off your screen
Holding down MENU and + buttons while powering it on
Release those buttons and enter the MENU
Select FACTORY RESET
Scroll down to FACTORY

I agree with this, i just bought mine from newegg to and love it. colors are real nice and the stand is excsllent. it rotates, moves up and down and tilts.

I have the spectre 22" panel... I have not used it in a while because my desktop MB took a dump. But while I was using it I liked it better than my 20" dell that I'm looking at right now.
