Absinthe??

I have had a run in with this drink. Only drunk it from a bottle though, not of a heated spoon or through the strange bottle thing they have on the site. My bro tried the spoon thing, said it's as near to high as you'll get off alcohol. Trippy....

I had one here on Naxos a few weeks ago (Greek island). It's legal here of course. It's green and tastes a lot like Jaegermeister. The "high" is very slow and mellow, calming. Two friends of mine tried it too, and one of them who has smoked weed, said that the high is similar.

A friend of mine has a few bottles.. and the spoon and i think sugar cubes?

never tried it myself though.

Had some Absenta from Spain a few weeks ago. Didn't do any of the stuff w/ the sugar cubes or anything like that. Didn't notice any other side effects other than being really really drunk.

AFAIK, the "active" ingredients in absinthe are present in such small amounts as to have almost no effect. The stuff has such a high alcohol content that you'll be completely bombed before the other stuff kicks in at all.

I've tried the "real" stuff a few times....it's alright if you like anise (black licorice) but nothing I'd have on a regular basis.

Very true. I have a bottle in my freezer right now (brought it back from vacation in Spain). Anyways, I really have trouble putting that stuff down. I really don't like black licorice, and this stuff has very powerful anise flavor. Not to mention it bieng 140 proof...

last time i went to europe i brought back a bottle with me and ime and a couple buddy drank it and it was some strong ass sh!t. It was a murky green liquid that tasted awful, but strong.

Some friends brought some back from europe last summer. They gave out shots at a party to about 10 people. 6 of them threw up. The others had really bad hangovers the next day.

Man, I never knew how hardcore absinthe was...now I'm on a mission to find and have some. 😀

<---stupid alcoholic 😉

it's not all that.

But it exists. and it's illegal here. that's enough reason for me. 🙂 😉

Had some absinthe last night. Roger on the licorice taste.

Told my wife that I tried it... "Why did you DO that?"

Me: "Uhm, it was just a drink."

Her: "But it's ILLEGAL!"

Me: "Uhh... Uhm, well... It's not like it -used- to be. This isn't Moulin Rouge or anything"

To me it was a 140 proof drink that tasted like licorice. The guy put some water in the absinthe, put it in a glass. Then he took a spoonful of sugar, put a little absinthe in it, lit the spoonful. Then stirred it into the glass.

You are going to be hard pressed to find anything with any decent amounts of wormwood. Most of the stuff sold around the world is called absinthe so people will say stuff like "ooh! That's that illegal drink that made Van Gogh cut his ear off" and buy a bottle and drink it only to get drunk with the only other effects being placebo in nature.

ok... Absinthe Facts and such

absinthe containing thujone is illegal to sell for human consumption in the United States
not illegal to own, or have, btw. just illegal to sell.

thujone (the primary active ingredient in wormwood) is illegal because it leads to some mental issues. google it.
