I was watching Eurotrip a little while ago, and the seen with the absinth came on. My brothre said he took shots of absinth before, in Canada. He said it was blue, not glowing green.

I called BS on that, I don't think someone of his size (~135lbs) could takes shots of absinth.

So, shens or no shens?
 
There are multiple kinds of Absinth. Blue, green, purple-ish, yellow with a haze, hell, I've even seen red. I don't know if your brother's lying or not, but blue Absinth is certainly nothing extraordinary.
 
It's not the colour that's making me doubt him, it's just that he said his friend bought it here in London, and that they did shots and also mixed it with Redbull. From what I hear, that stuff is powerfull and someone who weighs 135lbs would get pretty messed up.
 
Could be he bought it. Not legally, of course, but it's possible. It IS powerful and shi[/i]t, that shi[/i]t gets you messed up. I weigh ~75 kg myself, and duuuude..

Absinth is not a drug. It's liquor. Illegal in the USA and England, but semi-legal where I live.

Well, if alcohol is a drug depends on your point of view. But I don't see why we couldn't discuss Absinth if everyone is talking about beer (homebrewn at that), wine, vodka, whiskey and WEED. Nothing wrong with any of them, of course. Heh 😛.
 
absinthe = quite popular in london. i've had shots of it, its 70% alcohol, strong as hell. but yeah, definitely do-able, i've done it myself.
 
p.s. absinthe = nuclear green, never heard of it being blue. goes great with a shot of vodka and red bull.

When I was in Paris last November, and friend of mine and I hit up a bar. We asked for absinthe, and they said it was illegal, but about an hour later, the owner went to the basement and pulled out a bottle, and gave us a few shots.

Surprisingly, for being 140 proof, it didn't burn at all, and went down VERY smooth. Tastes great, too!

Then you got snookered and the stuff you got served was something fake. REAL absinthe does not go down very smooth and it does not taste great. REAL absinthe is served with sugar and water to make it palatable. But the bartenders in europe love dumbass american tourists. They can give them light beer with green food coloring, tell them it's absinthe and then laugh their asses off when the losers marvel at how good it tastes and smooth it goes down. ROFLMAO, you DID NOT drink absinthe.

Absinthe varies in power. The minimum is 100 proof is I remember correctly, that's barely more potent than any other liqour. If a person does a shot of that it's like doing a shot of anything else. There's no problem with a 135lb person doing it. If you can do 3 or 4 shots of vodka you can do 3 or 4 shots of weak absinthe. Some absinthes are very potent, as much as 140 proof. Doing a shot of that is closer to doing 1.5-1.8 shots of something else like vodka or tequila. Not really a problem for a 135 pounder to do 2 shots of even really potent absinthe. Anything more than 2 might be a problem though. The fact that OP's brother did it in shots leads me to believe that it was the weak, semi-fake absinthe sold in Canada. It looks like absinthe and tastes like absinthe, but in reality its the Coors Light version of absinthe. If you did a shot of the real stuff you'd probably be choking for the next hour, you would not go back for a 2nd round.

It's legal to posess a limited amount in the US (like a bottle or something?) but not legal to distribute. So I'd say that we fall under the semi-legal category as well.

acutally some is smooth. they had a showe on last night where the guy was drinking it. he commented on how smooth it was (then agian it could be it was mixed with ice water and suger).

It hasn't been enforced in years, however - I believe there was a New Orleans Scientist-cum-distiller that makes "legitamate" absinthe?

I've read it a while ago . . . but for the life of me, I can't seem to find the link, as I'ev wanted to try it sometime . . ..

It WAS absinthe. The bottle the owner pulled out was sealed, and we both examined the label. It was the same absinthe we had seen for sale in Rome, where we were a week before. He opened the bottle, and served it to us straight. Maybe it was so smooth because it was after 6 shots of vodka 😛.
