It stops hurting for awhile, until it hits the nerves in the center of the tooth. Then it will come back with a vengeance and you will face extreme nastiness.
I already googled it. I just want someone to post with personal experience with it. I am going to see my regular doctor this morning anyway, so I will see if he has some advice.
I had an abcessed tooth back in August and one night it was causing me extreme pain. I took something to relieve it and managed to get to sleep. I woke up the next day with a severely swollen lower right jaw. It looked as though I had been clubbed upside the head. I had to go to the ER because I heard from several people that it can be fatal due to the infection being close to your brain (or so they said anyway).
The only solution for me was to have a dentist pull it. It had been rotting away over time so there wasn't much worth saving. Perhaps your situation is better than mine was.
The infection has to be pretty damn bad where you start risking death from the infection and need to get it pulled. More likely you'll just need a root canal, which isn't too bad (though novacaine needle still scare the hell out of me... those fvckers are huge)
I had an absessed tooth when I was a kid from lack of brushing. (I brush twice a day now 🙂 )
