Abs workout? Do any of those gadgets work?

I am not looking to get a huge sic pack or anything like that. Just want something to help me with my form. Does the ab roller or any of those other things help at all?

I usually try to do situps (crunches) every other day but my back usually kills me by around 50 or so.

Thanks for any help.

I've been doing abs on a Swiss ball for years. That and hanging leg raises is all I do for abs, and my abs are pretty defined for a big guy.

dont mean to hijack your thread, but i want to know how many reps are minimum requirement for an abs workout. and yes, the equipment you mentioned do work if used properly.

Yeah, I am aware that you need to get rid of that layer of fat around the belt area. And I guess that is my toughest part since it seems that all the fat is located in that area for me. For cardio all I do is run 2-3 miles 2-3 times a week. Also, I try no to eat too much sugar but my one drug is beer. Man I love beer! but only one the weekends.

The ab roller (referring to that little wheel thing) works pretty well, but it can stress your lower back a lot. Most of the gadgets will work, but I've never really tried any of them beyond the roller and the swiss ball (which, again, can work).

I personally just do weighted crunches on the floor, use a decline sit-up bench for leg raises, and again for more weighted crunches. Hanging leg raises are also great, but I only like to do them if I have the little straps...hurts my shoulders too much to just hang by my hands.

Beyond that, you do have to remember that the appearance of abdominal muscles is something like 60-70% genetic. Just about anyone can get them to show, but some people are just more gifted in that area than others.
