There were three things I really wanted to happen this election: the Dems take the House, MO passes the stem cell initiative, and that Rick Santorum loses.

Congratulations to the people of PA, 'bout time you got rid of that neoconderthal.

3 presidential aspirations nipped in the bud during the '06 campaign (Kerry, Allen, Santorum)

While I am inclined to join the parade, I was pleasantly surprised to hear Santorum's concession speech. He actually sounded like a reasonable, decen human being.

I don't want to go so far as to say he's transformed back into a person but it's almost as if the trappings of DC power are akin to a full moon or pot (Reefer Madness).

Obviously, in some politicians the change is permanent.

You may be interested in the fact that Australia's Senate voted yesterday to stop the ban on stem cell cloning, so they'll likely be doing stem cell research very soon... it will happen in the entire US too, just give it time!

I am sad that America will actually be behind the curve on this one... f'n stupid if you ask me.

Allen? he may still win VA ya know, and if so, his bid for President is still a possibility. That said, the other two you named are now toast... and that's a good thing.

As well as showing Swann the door...don't forget that.

(too bad I can't say the people in the township were that smart--voted 2:1 for the losing idiots)

Allen will not run for President. That train left the station somewhere around macaca, who's a Jew, and where's my Confederate flag . . .

Allen was already facing a headwind that he was lightweight akin to *cough* Bush. Republicans circled the wagons around Bush b/c he already had the job. There's no way they would go down that road again given multiple options. Then again, I could be wrong . . . we picked Bush over McCain in 2000.

Yahoo news shows 8,000 votes lead for Webb with all results in. I doubt it. But if you look at the results here (very nicely done, BTW), you'll see that many races were as close or even closer. I'm sure that soon we'll have recounts and lawyers involved.

Edit: typos.

Allen turned what should have been a landslide victory (popular canidate, conservative state) into a potential loss -- best case scenario, he'll win by a hair. in either event, I can't imagine anyone backing him in '08. if a guy like that can't win big in Virginia, how's he going to carry the rest of the country?

Santorum was possibly the biggest assclown to ever walk the halls of the Senate. Good riddance and may embryonic stem cell research cure you of your head in ass disease.

And yeah, the Administration values incompetence, blind allegiance and wearing your religion on your sleeve, so I'm sure there's a position for him somewhere. "Director of Faith-Based Initiatives" was vacated recently, that'll be perfect for Santorum.

Here's the nightmare scenario:
Bush fires Rumsfeld.
And replaces him with Rich Santorum.

Does the Senate have to approve of the new replacement?

That man's departure is 10 years overdue. Keep in mind he was the jackass that wanted to put "intelligent" design into public schools by sneaking it into NCLB. Good riddance indeed.

Allen for Prez is a non-starter, he has way too much baggage and by most accounts is an intellectual lightweight of the highest order(I'm trying to be nice). We don't need another incompetent CIC, it's time to restore some grace and intellect to the WH, be it an R or a D.

I did not disagree with everything about Santorum aside from his wikipedia fame he seemed far too in the pocket of big business. Hes the guy that wanted to prevent the national weather service from issuing public forecasts because it was competing with private business (accuweather and such)

Even though I'm Republican, Santorum is far too conservative for me. Bob Casey is the right mix.... more moderate than anything else.
