My computer is (I thought) more than capable of meeting my needs, I usually do nothing more than surf the web, email, write papers, sync my mp3 player, and play the occasional game of wolfenstein: et. But I noticed that my display freezes on occasion when watching pROn or if I have the windows media player graphics thing on when listening to music. I figure the weak link in my system is the video card (specs below) but I never have a problem when playing Wolfenstein. One would think that a 6200 is at least capable of video playback???? Anybody?

I appreciate your refreshing honesty. :p

When you say freeze do you mean a pause or do you mean the system hangs and needs a reboot?

Start with the basics - update your video card and motherboard drivers, don't overclock anything and see if a BIOS update is available for your motherboard.

I had something similar happen to me when playing video files. My video would stop playing but the audio would continue going. The video would eventually catch up but it would freeze shortly after.

It was a corrupt codec which somehow got on my computer and I can't get rid of it. I installed the Matroska codec pack and use Media Player Clasic and everything runs smooth now. Or try watching stuff using M Player. That works very well too but there are no controlls for subtitles or changing the language of video files :( otherwise I wouldn't use anything else to watch video files with.

yep. Prime 95 stable. Doesn't need a reboot, it freezes for ~15-20 seconds, then catches back up and plays for awhile before it freezes again. audio stops too. I am not overclocking.

I will try new drivers...
