About Upgrade Time: SOB Question

Almost upgrading time

What kind of #'s does a P4 3.0 ghz on the 800 mhz+ bus pull?

i think sinfulweeper has this setup (w/ XMS memory to boot)...

i would also have the corsair memory...

not defninte upgrade but i dunno if i can wait for the prescott..

currently i only have 1 p3-450 and a 1.2 gthz tbred (woot its almost cracking 190 k cems/sec!!!)

i have an eval box (HP) with a 2.8Ghz P4 800fsb and was getting just under 400k cems/sec, a couple weeks ago

Remember that the new client (1.1.0) should be a little faster now for P4's 🙂

Well, according to Louis anyway 😉

My P4 setup is not a 800FSB CPU. Just the traditional 533 chip. But it's OC'ed to 170FSB with the memory ratio @ 3:4 with the CAS settings @ 2-3-3-6.
Depending on the K&N values. It ranges from 407000-474000 cEM's per second.
Those rates would see one nice increase if I order some memory capable of 2-2-2-6 @ turbo settings. But I have yet to see any memory on the market that will run @ 458+DDR with those timings. I am most anxously awaiting the XMS PC3700 LL 😀.

One thing I found out about SoB. Better memory timings tagged with high speed memory bus help out the client more than actual CPU speed. So if you do get a 3.0GHz system up and running, do not skimp out on the memory. Any whatever you do (providing your gunna OC)... under no circumstances run the memory with 4:3 or 3:2 timings. That will severely slow down your production. Then most likely get mad a chip that in all rights should do much better.

I myself am getting ready to get another cruncher online some time this month, or early next month... providing my trip down to Seattle in July does not hamper with my finances too much.
I was aiming more at the 2.6C or 2.8C though. With HT it should be able to do 550000+ cEMs/sec I think. FoBoT is a little unfortunate. While it's cool he has such a fast PC and all. I can not help but think HP is still making slow computers. I remember I had a PII 450MHz when the fastest CPU at the time was a 550MHz PIII... anyway a cheap arse PII 266MHz was running loops around my computer in everything but the most CPU specific applications.

Getting back on topic... I have no clue as to what the 3.0 will do. If everything goes right and you get it to 230FSB. It might be able to break 620000 cEMs... but thats only a guess as I know of no one running a computer of such magnatude on SoB. 😕

I have an oc'ed 2100+ (2.3ghz) that averages 420000.
you could build 2 of these systems for the price of the p4 alone =)

Lol,

I did not know that the latest athlons were so close to the P4 in SOB performance espeically b/c of the SSE2 optimizations. What is the setup of those 2 AMD systems specifically AMCdonald?

Hmm...
Maybe I'll sell my PIII can Celeron systems. Get them replaced with an AMD setup.
It's hard to say though. With DVD RW drives becoming so cheap and considering I regularly do DivX and MP3 encoding, that is where a P4 reigns supreme. About the only game I play is Star Craft and that will run peachy on a P233MMX 😛

Gunna check out the FS/FT forums after my trip. If I can manage to get a newer AMD setup for under $125 (mobo & cpu) that would greatly help out my production. Alas, I'll still need a lot for memory though :disgust:

BTW Overkiller, AMD's Enhanced 3D Now is SSE2 in most sense. Just renamed and a couple tweaks here and there.
They had to buy permission from Intel to use them.
At least that is how I understand it.

I'm getting 422005 right now on this computer.
Its a 2100+ @ 2295 (13.5x170) on an A7n8x w/ 2x256 hyperx3000 ram. Its an older board so I'm limited on the fsb.
As far as I understand thats on par with the high-end p4's.
The p4 1.6-1.8 workstations are running ~190 since the 1.10 release... they we're 160-170. Even with the boost its still less than half the production of a cheaper computer 😀

Wow. that is quite impressive. My 1.2 tbred is doing 180K cems right now !!! this is w/ the old version of the client..i hear the new client degrades AMD performance..

also i think AMD only has SSE..not SSE2..i could be wrong..!

if the choice was amd it would easily be a7n8x, 1 gb corsair 3200LL twin mx, and a nice athy...should i splurge on a high end sledgehammer/opteron or stick w/ the cheap bartons?
-Edit- Also there is no certainty behind the fact that i would be able to get a 1.73 ghz up that high..although i assume a 1.73 ghz up to 2.2 would be way more beneficial than a 2.17 barton for example...

the 400 mhz 3200+ is waaaay too much (455$)...anyone know the overclockability of one of the 333mhz bartons?..especially when coupled w/ the best 400 mhz ram out there

-edit- after reading some in the overclockers forum :GASP!!! i left distributed computing 😉 :
i am heavily leaning towards the 2500 barton. specially b/c its cheap. is pretty fast stock and it appears most bartons are created equal...anyone running 2500+ bartons on a 400 bus?

amcdonald, thats strange. My P4 1.6 willy gets just over 300000. I don't know what kind of memory timing options you have in the motherboards, but you might want to take a look-see as they seem to be lagging.
