I would assume that the UK department of immigration website would be a good place to start.

UK adopted a point system back in dec 31, 2008, now it is all in tier. what are you trying to do here depends what kind of visa you get.

tier 1 = high skill (at least a master level) and have been making at least £20k or equiv. a year
tier 2 = company sponsor kind of visa for people to work, kinda like the h1b in US
tier 3 = forgot
tier 4 = student
tier 5 = kinda varies and included a lot of people in this, like working holiday.

there is a calculator you can check to see if you have enough points for tier 1.
