Okay, i'm about to reinstall the game. How do the DLCs work? Do i have to download them seperately? Is there an specific order in which i should do this? Where can i download them?

Do the mods that work with vanilla work with the new DLCs?

Thanks

I think you download them from within game.
Mods that work with vanilla should mostly work with the DLCs, just don't have them enabled when you mod.

sign in to Games for Live and buy the DLC from there. Then when you relaunch the game and enable the DLC from the Game launch window-> Mods

Using older versions of mods that don't support the DLC's is a can of worms. Try to look for the newest versions that support the DLC packs. Also look for compatibility patches wherever applicable.

Thanks for the replies. I just looked up some DLCs, i feel overwhelmed. Not sure which to start with or should i get them all. Is there an order in which i should get them? To let you know i never managed to finish Fallout 3.

Not really a certain order I don't think. I recommend The Pitt above Operation Anchorage but they are both good and add some nice gear. Broken Steel I would get only once you get to level 20 or just before, to add the extra content and level cap.

The Pitt is nice fun for a low level character, so if you start over, go wild. However, if you're level 20+, you'll rape and pillage everything there.

Broken Steel is definately the best, longest and most entertaining one. A must have just for the raised level cap and new perks. I'm downloading the newest one right now. Set in Maryland or something.

And you need GWL on the same drive as your Fallout 3 installation. Otherwise, you'll have to manually copy files over to your Fallout 3 folder, like I had to do. I partitioned my drive for some reason way back when.

If you wanted to buy all the DLC's what would the total cost be? I could not figure out any price in my quick check on the live website though I did not access that from fallout 3 itself. I have seen the retail copy of The Pitt and Anchorage together for $17 so I'm curious how that compares.

You mean data? I downloaded and installed the add-on broken steel. Live installed it, but I don't see it under any data file. I wanted this because it actually continues the story at the end.

Im in the same boat as the OP. I just finished F3 with my new rig and want to download some new content. I click on "Live" and Fallout freezes. When i finished "Downloads" was now lit up and i clicked it and a "View Downloadable Content" came up. I click that and nothing. What is up with this?

Edit: This is also creating a nightmare for people that want to reinstall a game later. I got Fallout 3 from Steam and it looks like i have to get the DLC from MS. What a mess...

Broken Steel allows you to finish the game and continue on.

The Pitt - feels like a mad max thunderdome dlc. :)

Anchorage - VR type mission which give you access to some nice items [weapons, armor, etc] once you finish the VR part.

Latest DLC "Point Lookout" - graphically intense [or they did something in ver 1.06 update] - I had to turn down a few graphical settings. Yeeeehaw in the swamp! Fun DLC so far.

DLC's cost $10.00 each [Microsoft points] so if you can get the combo deal at a lower price - I'd go for that.

Windows Live is a horror to deal with. I couldn't get it working until i reinstalled the game and patched before doing anything else. Windows Live is a Pain in the ass too. You can't just make a log in for Windows Live, noooo, you have to use the hotmail or msn e mail log in which I havent used in a year. Once I did that I was forwarded to the xbox live page.....why? The game is for PC DAMNIT. So I had to navigate for 10 minutes trying find the updates for Fallout 3. Once I found it, it told me I didn't have enough points even though it was free and had to go through 2-3 steps to add free points. Then somehow along the way it forwarded me yet again to the freakin XBOX live menu!!!!! *breaths hard*

i had huge problems with running the game when it first came out through windows live... so the second time i installed (via steam) i just ran everything from within there and never signed in to windows live.

the fact that i might have to go back to windows live just to get the DLC makes me have zero drive to do so.

Yeah, i feel your pain. I had to jump through similar hoops. Steam is a dream next to windows live. I also have this odd thing where the "in game" Live menu is vertically displaced by about the height of TWO pointers. So to click buttons i have to be so far below them that im not even touching, then it will work. What is up with that?

I just bought, Broken steel, point lockout, and the pitt. I find it very annoying that i have to be logged in to Windows live to even play them. Anyways, someone here suggested that i should hit up Pitt at low levels? What levels are recommended to hit up all these DLCs? I imagine broken steel is best done at the end.
