i have a partitioned C drive that i want to reformat and at the same time, i have a 250GB drive, i was wondering if i reformat C wouldn't the 250GB HD be recognized around 130GB?i am not sure if the information stored on the HD will remain intact if this happens?

EDIT also i have programs on a partition other than the C: is it possble for that the programs can remain funcitonal once C: is reformatted?

thanks i advance!

Actually you don't need to reinstall ALL your apps... lots of stuff will work but a good percentage of them will look for a registry entry and not run if it's not there. To save having to do horrible tedious things like installing 6-CD games over again, just find and export the game's registry entry and import it back into the new OS.

As far as reformatting, what tool are you using? fdisk? Partition Magic? Make sure you save any critical files before doing it.

Download XP SP2 and use a slipstreaming utility to slipstream it into your XP and burn a new XP CD for yourself, which will be XP SP2. Since you asked about the 137GB problem, I guess your XP CD is pre-SP1. After you slipstream SP2 into it, after install. it will recognize larger than 137GB drives.

Then, disconnect the 250GB drive from the motherboard. Do your format and re-install using your slipstreamed XP SP2. Then, reconnect your 250GB drive to your motherboard.

i alredy slipstreamed my cd
If you have slipstreamed your CD with SP2, why would the 250GB HD be recognized around 130? !!!!!

however why would i have to disconnect the HD?

So that you don't have to worry about the data on the 250GB drive while you are reformating your OS drive.

Didn't you ask:
so do would the data on my 250 GB be safe during reformatting?

I am just addressing your concern. If you disconnect the drive, and format the other one, there is no possibility of formating the wrong drive and losing the data on it by mistake.
