Okay I am about to move up from my below setup (see sig). I am planning on moving toward a sempron cpu setup with s754. I have some question before I make my choices on what I want. My plan is to overclock, overclock and overclock. Watercooling and the works.

My choices.

Sempron 3100+ (1.8GHz 256KB 333GHz FSB Socket 754) OEM SDA3100AI03B0 AMD SEMPRON 3100+ Processor (1.8GHz 256KB 333GHz FSB Socket 754)
- This is the sempron with E core stepping. HIts. 2.7 with no problems.

Sempron 64 bit 3100+ (1.8GHz) Socket754 Retail MFN SDA3100BXBOX RETAIL Specification SDA3100BXBOX Process Type: AMD Sempron 3100+* Frequence: 1.8 GHz
- Of course this is the 64bit version.

Here are my questions on these cpus. Which one is better. When I mean better speed wise and overclocking. Is the 64bit one the same as the E core stepping with just 64bit enabled? Will I get the same overclocking performence?? I am having problems finding the alot of informantion on this stuff.

For motherboards I am not sure what I am going to get.

GA-K8NSNXP

ZNF3-250

One of these or the best bang for my buck that I can get. LMK what other motherboards you think would be good.

I am going to use my old hardware for this setup. Ram, and video card. Just looking for motherboard and cpu only. THanks guys

The 64Bit version is the same 'E' stepping that has 64 Bit extensions enabled. So, ocing will be similar between either cpu's. The cores are the same. As always though, ocing could be better or worse from 1 core to the other.

Why the socket 754, is sempon alot cheaper over there than s939 Athlon64?, you are limiting yourself for future upgrades! Best to stick to s939 IMHO

NOpe. Upgrading your Ram? Sure you can leave your old ram in. Upgrading your Video card? A big nono, as you have nothing to do with your old Video card. Upgradign your processor? Another nono, as you have nothing to do with your old processor. Of course, theres always ebay, but you have to discount like crazy. Thats my mentality anyways. Look at the old people who migrated to 754 from socket A. They were probably thinking about upgrade paths also. Now what do we tell them? Get a 939 instead of upgrading an old 754 because it can upgrade more.

Btw, both chips SHOULD oc around the same because of similar processes, but each chip is different.

Id say there is no problem going to a sempron 64 socket 754 chip and save a considerable amount compared to socket 939 but thats my opinion. I love my new sempy and its very fast when overclocked. :)
