I wanted to balance this system with future upgradeability with a budget in mind.

The max my friend can spend is $800 and this system fits the bill perfectly (after shipping).
However, I would like some suggestions from all you gurus out there on the smaller details of the system.

I'll probably go shopping tonight for this system. Thanks.

System

p.s. this is my first time "linking". if it doesn't work, i'll try again.

looks a solid system, however people say bad things about XFX -and my brother recieved a faulty 6800Ultra which he is going to have to RMA. However, the 6600GT they can probably make right :disgust:

So which 6600 do you recommend?

tbh, if thats the cheapest, just get it really.. unless there is a different brand that is within $6 of the Xfx.

Good catch...that saves me some money! I could've sworn I put the PCI-e in the cart.

I've got twice that amount in videos, mp3's, and digital pics.

I've got another 25 Gigs in games and misc.

It does add up quick.

Thanks....I just want to stay under the $800 cap, so I am unable to get a larger HDD. I know that it's possible to eventually get under the cap with rebates, but I don't think he has the money to get the pre-rebate prices. HDD's are always upgradeable anyway...not a big deal.

I'm getting that same motherboard, memory, and DVD player. In fact, they just came in today. I'll let you know how it goes. Don't forget to flash your BIOS to 2.0.

That is the EXACT system I'm building right now. Here are the issues I have had. The power supply that comes with the case is a 20 pin ATX. The motherboard uses a 24pin ATX 2.0 powersupply.

I'm getting a 24 to 20 pin converter. That said someone on these forums should be able to explain how to hook up the power without the converter.

You don't need the converter. Just align pin 1 on the connector to pin 1 on the cable and leave the last four pins open. Look at your motherboard manual for pin 1 of the connector and pin 1 should be labeled on your power supply cable.

looking at the PSU that comes with the case its only 350watt with 16amps on the 12v. It might run it but chances are you won't be able to o/c any. I'd recommend getting a 24pin PSU or getting a different case with a more beefy PSU.

To risky to get that low end of a PSU and it 20pin because if you have any issues it could be due to the PSU.

I have the case, with the 350w psu, Antec either upped the +12v or the specs are wrong, mine has 21amps on +12v.
