Heya folks, I'm just about to purchase my new gaming system and was curious if I could get some feedback from you folks on my hardware choices. I mainly play BF2, looking to get into F.E.A.R. and the new Elder Scrolls game and I do plan to overclock. This system needs to be pretty future-proof as I don't plan to upgrade for a couple of years.

Opteron 148 CABNE (already have)
DFI LANParty nF4 Ultra-D
Crucial Ballistix 2Gb
Seagate 7200.9 160Gb
ATI x1800 XT 512mb (chose this over the 512mb 7800gtx because I get a 40% discount on ATI products)
TT Big Typhoon
Creative X-FI Music
Antec p180
Antec Neopower 480w

I would really like to get the imput of the AA community before I drop this much cash. Your comments extremely appreciated.

Thanks.

ea engine needs at least 1.5gb of ram to run at normality (will still run at 1gb). resulting in the need for 2gb to keep the balance for dual channel and 1t.

Know where I can get a cabne?

Looks hot except dfi-street.com reccomends OCZ PowerStream 520w as the best PSU for thier motherboards.

Based on some of the info I read you get no real benefit of 512 of ram over 256 on your video card so you could get the 256 version and save some money

Mobo: ok!
Memory: ok! (just ordered the same)
HD: As long as 160Gb is enough for you, it's a good choice.
GPU: No comment :p
Big Typhoon: Very good performance, very slightly noisy but a great value if your main goal is performance. I went with scythe ninja + nexus 120mm fan to get the quietest possible cooling but I had to pay a hefty premium for that.
Sound Card: X-Fi it's the best. no contest there.
Case: I have it, awesome case. lots of room for upgrades
PowerSupply: Antec knows their stuff, I have an Antec 430W TruPower myself. Yours is even better

Wow, everything looks excellent. However, I recommend the Enermax Whisper II 430W instead of that Antec NeoPower. The Enermax has 33A on a single +12V rail, and it's only about $75. Don't worry about the 480W DFI "requirement". 33A will be more than enough to power all your parts.

thanks for the feedback folks. for those of you asking about the 40% off, CompUSA has an employee purchase program with ATI that gives us 40% off on hardware. Only problem is that it has to be on products that are on their atistore website. The x1800 XL just recently got posted there, so who knows how long it will be before the XT goes up.

Do you guys think it would be a waste to not use a XT/GTX on this gaming system? I was thinking of just getting a x1800 XL if I can't get my hands on a XT soon (since I'm quitting CUSA soon I very well may not be around once the XT is up).
