IMO that's a pretty nice rig. The only thing I would add is maybe a DVD burner but that would add $$$ to your overall price.

I was going to suggest a shorter cable for your DVD/CD-RW drives. I just built a system into the same case with an Asus P4P800 and the 12" cables I got are more than long enough. Looking at a picture of the Abit IC7 though, the IDE connectors are a bit further down the board. Just a bit though. I think you will find that a 6" floppy cable would be plenty -- if anyone sold them.

Other than that, I'd only recommend considering the 9700 non-pro, but for the additional $60, it may not be cost effective.

I would get the P4P800 instaed of the IS7, and a Chieftech case, and maybe not GeiL memory, Ive heard some bad JuJu about that brand (but good things too, I guess your milage will vary) .

I would also get a ATA HDD tahts 10K and 8Megs if its available SATA still has yet to impress me.

And a older 9500Pro if you can find one....

Nice set up, but I think I can save you quite a bit of money...

Very steep price on the 9600 Pro. Newegg has for $151 and GameVE has for $154, both free shipping. That's $27 saved. I'm guessing the place that you got the $178 quote was free shipping as most places seem to ship vid cards for free.

Go with www.svc.com for cables. 1 rounded floppy and 2 rounded IDE cost me $10 shipped. That's another $19 saved. Plus most places rape you on shipping for those cables, so up that savings to $23 or so.

Unless you are into burning on the fly, go with an LG combo drive. Much quieter, seems to last longer, and the combo will save you some cash. Newegg has for $66 I believe. That's $14 savings.

If you don't use Firewire or RAID, you can save $10 more by going with the IS7-E instead of the IS7.

The Antec Sonata case was $105 shipped when I ordered it last week, probably still is. You're paying $110 plus probably $15 shipping. That's $20 saved. It is a NICE case and PSU though, great choice.

Some people might say those savings by themselves are insignificant, especially the motherboard, but that's a grand total of ~$108 saved. You could up that RAM to 1gig for $199 shipped from Newegg or up the vid card to an ATI 9800 np for $244 shipped from GameVE. Seems like a lot of the parts I recommended other vendors for are prices from Newegg. They do have GREAT customer service and had rock-bottom prices back in the beginning, but now you can find better deals elsewhere on some of your parts. Hope this helps...

Also, I forgot to mention, great choice on the hard drive. If you can get by with 36GB (which most people can but don't seem to realize it) it's speed is NICE. Most of the people that don't like it haven't used one. Going from a 7200rpm 8mb cache drive to a Raptor made it seem like a new comp, as funny as that sounds...
