Well, I am pretty unhappy as is my neighbor at the end of our dead end. Right now, I am an only bordered by a house one side. Directly across the street is an empty lot, and the house behind me is buffered by my yard and privacy fence.
On the left of my house was a heavily wooded lot that was very steep and almost marshy at the bottom. This thing is level for about 10 feet and then just DROPS. My driveway borders it on the side, and if you step over the curb on my driveway, you have a nice 15-20 foot drop to meet you. I have no idea how they are going to build there. Last I was told, the lot would not perk, and the developer tried to sell it to me for 20k, and did the same with my other neighbor. Neither one of us wanted it because it was a very small lot with lots of trees, and it truly didn't seem it could be developed.
Fast forward to today. A developer comes out here and just CLEAR CUTS the entire lot. Not a tree left on it. WTF? He claims the basement is going in this week, and that the house will be going up shortly thereafter. Due to the angle and and sheer drop, I'd imagine they will have to bring in a TON of dirt, and that they are going to have to build the house UP rather than over -- so I imagine it will be very tall. Plus, the lot is irregular in shape, so they will not have much of a front yard or backyard. Just a small sideyard. I have no idea where a driveway would even go unless they are going to really fill in the lot and build it to circle around back.
Ugh. Sorry for the long post, but it makes me sad. My beautiful view is gone, and the house will be right next to my bedroom. I can look forward to drills and hammers at 6AM for the next 6 months, and I guess I will lose the ability to prance around naked with the blinds half open as well.
Cliffs:
Piss poor lot is next to my house, and I have a lot of privacy because of it and my neighborhood structure.
Developer found some sucker to buy the piss poor lot.
Tall house will be built and obstruct my view and take way my privacy.
Cut down all the damn trees.
Mill and his neighbor are sad.
BTW, yes, before anyone says it I COULD have bought the lot. But, it was never worth 20k, and it still isn't. I figure he sold it for 10k or so, because you'd have to be high on crack to pay 20k for it. Of course, he'd have never sold it to me for that price, because once he found some sucker at 10k, he can build a house and make a profit AND sell the lot.
Last thing -- they claim they are going to develop any even SMALLER and crappier lot directly across from me. I guess I better move.
