XP is not obsolete in that all the programs and features that it has are fine for me. I don't see any advantages to Vista at this time. That's not to bash Vista, I'm just saying that the features, such as 64bit and DX10, aren't really taken advantage of yet AFAIK. Also the drivers aren't mature (for example, someone said that the Sound card I'm going to get is not yet supported in Vista). So, basically, the only reason for me to get Vista would be the pretty desktop and the ineffiecient use of RAM...

Though it dose use more (RAM) Vista is smarter in how it deals with your resources. So assuming you have 2GB plus that shouldn't be an issue vs. XP.

In regards to the Antec NeoHE it is built for Antec by Seasonic. It's a huge step over the True Power and Smart Power (built by Channel Well) that are known to commonly fail but they are not as good as Seasonics own units or those built for Corsair or PCP&C.

I just don't know if I want to get a new OS that supposedly has problems. I'm sure that drivers are coming out everyday to support more hardware, etc, but, well, it's 400 bucks! (for the 64-bit version...)

Wait on Vista, seriously. The video card you're buying doesn't work all that well with Vista, according to quite a few people. It's most likely just drivers, of course, but who knows when they'll get that figured out? And the Scythe Ninja is supposed to come with thermal paste. Mine didn't, of course. What it comes with isn't very good, anyway. Get this, it's much better than AS5 (and is the only paste that's better than AS5): link.

If you already have XP then I would keep using it for now.

I thought you were going to be purchasing XP.

Exactly!!! If I might add just because a PSU is contracted out to be built by another manufacturer such as Seasonic does not mean that said PSU is of the same quality as say the manufacturers own brand,,,nor does it mean said PSU is using the exact same brand of components. 😀

Definitely go with WD or Samsung if you don't want that annoying seek noise bothering you.

As far as the PSU goes, most of the PSUs have long enough cables unless if the main 24 pin connector is right up next to the cpu or something (like my EPoX mobo). Even then, you can still connect everything, just managing the cables is hard.

IIRC Creative now has drivers for Vista.

Don't get that motherboard. I have it, and I hate it. If you have to have 680i, get the eVGA one, and deal with the heatsink issue that it has--it has far more compatibility as far as RAM goes. I wish I would have gotten an Intel 975X chipset myself.... 🙁

What do you guys think about the Antec Nine Hundred Mid Tower Case? It appears to be well vented and plenty of fans. I ask because it is $99.00 at Fry's before a $40.00 rebate = 59.00. Neweggs price is $150. I ask because I am trying to put together a similar rig within $2000.00 complete (Posted ttoday in General Hardware, New Game Build.) JV
