About to get SSD....some questions

I am about to get either the Supertalent ME 64GB or the OCZ Vertex for my Window 7 System.

There is a problem: Only the OCZ Vertex has the built in Garbage Collection - and its unclear to me whether the others will ever have that feature?

As is my understanding, all the 1711 Indilinx Firmware has GC "built in" - but only the OCZ has this "background GC"....and its tempting.

"Problem": The OCZ is about ?40 more - but the supertalent according to my specs has higher write speeds!

SuperTalent 230MB/s read - 180MB/s write
OCZ: 230MB/s r - 135(!)MB write

Which confuses me since both (as well as patriot Torque) are using 1711 Indilinx Firmware and the same H/W. Why is the OCZ supposed to be slower?

Furthermore...i wouldnt ask those questions if there is a hack to get OCZ firmware on Supertalent drives ...then the ST would be a nobrainer.

I think the 180MB/s figure is for the 128/256GB models. Well thats the case for the G.Skill Falcon specs, only 135MB/s write for 64GB models, and 190MB/s for 128/256 ones.

Don't really know about the Garbage Collection, but I got the Falcon either ways. I figure this, even in its worst used state its still magnitudes faster than the HDD it replaces.

it is only useful to you if you are going to use a non trim OS... since you are using windows 7 this is a non issue

I say take all specs with a LARGE grain of salt. I have tried 2 of these drives, a Jmicron and a gen 2 Samsung. The Jmicron felt MUCH faster, except that it only worked for about 10 minutes before stuttering rendered it useless. The Samsung was fast, but in some ways not much faster than my WD 320. All indications are that my next and hopefully final SSD wil be the Intel G2!

thats why you look at reviewers are not at the companies who SELL IT for data about performance...
Reviewers all said that the jmicron is crap, and that the samsung is meh.
The intel has been a golden boy from day one, and indlinx a good budget alternative...

I bought an intel and boy oh boy were the reviewers right. This is absolutely amazing.
