About to get an LCD

Hi all,

I am about to move from CRT to LCD for the first time.

My big concern is the life span of the LCD. Is there a typical life span for recently produced LCDs?

I am wondering how much importance I should place on the warranty. So far the best looks like the 3 year "quick swap" warranty with LG LCDs. From the looks of it it sounds like if anything goes wrong in 3 years they'll swap it out. Is that a sufficient warranty?

Thanks for any info!

Can't really expect more than a 3yr. When you buy a product like that but only get a 1yr, it feels pretty schiesty, but 3yr I consider good in the computer/electronics market for MOST products. Seagate's 5yr on hard drives feels pretty good though!

Also it seems as long as you have a good return policy in the case of dead pixels or other initial problems, the biggest thing to worry long-term about with LCDs (unless you are a dumbass with it) is backlight hours. But it's something like 40,000+ hours which is quite a damn lot (not doing the math).

yeah of course everyone would want to get good warranty time period.
though I must say, 3 year limited warranty?

the terms and condition can be really deceiving when they talk about full warranty and limited warranty

Yeah, beware of the "limited" part. I'd say find one with a warranty that covers backlight, parts and labor for the three years. Some "3 year" warranties are only for parts, non-inclusive of labor and backlight.
