About to finish my new pc...

I'm about to finish building my new computer, what i got left in the Heatsink (XP-90) and connecting all the component wires and side panel wires (stupid confusing wires from the case).

I think with SATA Harddrives you need to install SATA drivers for the harddrives, and I DO NOT have a Floppy drive! is this true? what should I do? I don't remember this part from the last computer I built if I had to install the harddrive drivers.

Also i'm having a little trouble with the wires for the front panel USB&FIREWIRE, since for some reason instead of being a easy connecting head it's sevrel of split wires (stand alone 1's)- but I don't know how to explain it without pictures.

So please if some people can shoot some tips or things that I should double check.

And the last thing:
The last pc I built was a Athlon Barton and the Main Die is exposed, but with this CPU (Athlon64 939) it's all covered with metal, so how do I apply the thermal grease? on all the surface I guess?

Thanks

We could use detailed specs here 🙂 What case you got and what motherboard?

As for tips, my first one is don't plug the network cable in if you don't have a hardware firewall, not until you've got your defenses up. Installing SP2 for WinXP while the network cable is unplugged would be a good step, since it patches vulnerabilities and also turns on your software firewall. Obviously you need SP2 pre-downloaded in order to do that 🙂

Oh, I will be installing Win2000Pro I think... untill the 64bit win comes out.
I have MSI Neo2 Platinum Board and Silverstone Temjin 5 Case.

You can see all my specs in the "My Computers" Link in my signature... the one I finished now is the "LeToy 64".
Thanks again

In that case, if you don't have a hardware firewall, use ZoneAlarm as your firewall protection. When I get home from work I'll try to give you some help with the USB and Firewire wiring.

Crap.
I would, if I had a working computer.
God dammit I think I got a defected Motherboard.
Today I tried, and I took it to a computer office and we couldn't get it to work, the motherboard speaker doesn't even make a sound!

Well, tomorrow i'm buying a new one and sending the old one back. I hope it will be ok.
Lighting and airflow in my pc is AMAZING tho! and that's all it does for now, eh.

Yes.
And i tried another power supply, 2 other video cards, pci video card, running without memory and processor, didn't beep or give errors, tried disconecting everything didn't work. I hope it's not the CPU but it's not likely since something must be wrong with the mobo, it doesn't beep or show ANYTHING at all.

Is it mounted on standoffs and did you get the CPU into the socket in the right orientation? For A64's, the gold triangle goes at the corner to the left of the lever.

So when you push the case's power button, nothing happens at all, no fans or drives? Maybe the power button's wire is on the incorrect pins on the mobo. Check this picture and note the position of the Power Switch pins relative to the absent pin.

No, common... I mean it's not the first pc i built
Everything lights up in the pc, the HD's turn, the cd-roms eject, and all.
Just nothing shows on the screen (tried 4 video cards) and the mobo doesn't beep and nothing.

If you want to see my full list o' troubleshooting, the top link here has more no-POST/no-run causes than you can shake a DIMM at. But it certainly could be a bad mobo, yeah. 😱
