About to buy DDR for KT266A

I'm very happy with Crucial memory - but, they don't have CL2 DDR ram. What are some other options for DDR memory, I wouldn't mind taking this new board up to 150Mhz bus speed or more if possible. So some good quaility stuff would be nice. Any recomendations? TIA!

Sorry, one more question - should I bother dropping the extra $7 per 256 for registered. I don't know if I'll ever go beyond 512 (at least for while) but I've heard bad things about using more than 2 sticks of un-registered memory...

Crucial PC2100 will run at CAS2. Unless you will be running a server, don't bother w/registered memory. 512mb is more than enough for what most users will be doing, to include some mild video/audio editing.

Thanks MichaelD, I've been reading enough positive feedback to think that Crucial should do CL2 well enough (luck of the draw as always in o/c'ing I'm sure). I'm very happy with my current 512Megs, I don't see the need for what I do to go any higher for some time. In fact, I'm reading enough to think that I could probably do 3 sticks of un-registered if need be ...

No prob. 🙂 I should've specified (but didn't want to scare you off) that 99.99999999% (theoretically speaking, of course) of all users get Crucial PC2100 to run at CAS2, even w/aggressive memory timings. There's always that one off-chance that it won't, but almost all users do get it at CAS2 with aggressive timings. You're good to go. Have a good day.

I believe Corsair and Infineon are the two best "performance" DDR DIMMs out. Crucial uses Micron chips, and is also well known to perform at higher than rated levels (in the 150-160 range). Check out this article for more in-depth information:

DDR Comparison

Thanks again, that article was a good one - looks like 2 Crucial's coming up! If I can hit 150MHz bus speed I'll be happy - especially since I'm coming from a KT7 @ 100MHz bus. Should be able to get my 1.33 TBird to 1.5ish or so (I hope).

if u want performance ge the Mushkin 256MB PC2100 performance ram............it looks extremely cool witht heat spreader and all........plus it does cas 2-2-2.........expensive tho......$122 for a stick 🙁

Yea, I saw that Mushkin stuff, but jeeze, paying anything over $50 is way to high for memory NOW (Of course, I snapped up a 256Meg PC133 when it fell to $90 awhile back :Q ). Paying over $100 nowdays is insane. I'll take the risk with Crucial for less than half the price!

I have the crucial memory and I could run it at CL2 and ultra timings at 133, I currently run at 150 and I had to back off to normal timings and CL 2.5 to get it to run at this bus
