About those arguments that get into "Maybe you should leave America".

I have seen this on AT and many other forums. Say there is a pro-war/anti-war debate going on. Usually towards the end there are always comments (usually from the pro war people) like "Well if you don't agree with the US, then maybe you should leave America" or "Get out of America now!". So I guess anytime anyone crticizes anything about America, they should be told to leave America. Next time anyone criticizes affirmative action, that Mexican girl who died after a heart transplant, liberalism on TV or NAFTA, they should be told to leave America, because that is how things are done here.

I've tried to explain it to this forum, but many of the users refuse to listen. They do not understand that this country of ours was formed because we did not agree with our government at the time.

that Mexican girl who died after a heart transplant

She should not have been in the USA anyway. She also got help before others that were waiting long before her. Needless to say they will sue and get millions and by all rights should still have been in their own country and not ours.

yeah, people are silly like that

they themselves find it OK to b1tch about the jobs they have and hate, yet they don't really consider leaving, nor changing anything about it, but once one starts critisizing US, those half wit flag wavers start screaming "well, then leave!"

just human nature

Why leave when you can stay here and piss off those people even more for not leaving?

This country is great for its freedoms. You have the freedom to say what you want and you have the freedom to suffer the consequences of the stupidity of your words.

If you disagree with something your government you have the right to stand up and say something about it. You can protest wars. You can protest abortion. You can protest the death penalty. You can protest crop subsidies. You can protest welfare. This is all within your rights. What you are doing is stating an opinion about an issue. When you say, "this country sucks because..." you are playing a different game. When you make statements like that, my response is to tell you to fvck off back to where you came from if it is better there.

I would go to Canada for the free encryption, but their healthcare laws violate my personal economic morals.

Well, not a very bright response ... as expected, from an average person living in this country...

Say, a person has a car that one likes. The car is fine, but the climate control works in a really weird fashion. So, should the person get rid of the car? Or just b1tch to the mechanic about the AC and get it fixed?..

Read the post numbnuts. To apply my argument to your analogy:

If the AC sucks - complain to the mechanic.

If you say "this car sucks because the AC is broken" then get a new car...

I should read the post by the user "numbnuts"? Could not find any, sorry

Or, were You just being You, - another arrogant rude ignorant American geek, who takes his life's frustrations out onj others, by insulting them?

Anyway, - people might like the country as a whole, but not like certain things about it, and are either willing to change it, or just want to b1tch about it. It is their right, and there is nothing wrong with it.

Interesting, I always thought that saying "this country sucks because..." was a method of protesting.

Those "leave if you don't like it" comments come from delusional people. They're under the delusion that they are more important or speak for more people than another person. If they didn't feel that way, they would see that their entire argument boils down to "you disagree with me, therefore you should leave".

They try to make it seem like they're defending America, but they don't have any more right to speak for America than the other person. Each person is just one citizen, so the person saying "we suck because..." is just as much the voice of America as the person saying "we're great because...".

When you understand that, you see that someone saying "you don't like America, then leave" makes as much sense as someone saying "I don't like the way America is, if you do like the way it is, then leave".

It is. But if you actually believe that this country sucks because of blah blah blah - why not leave and go somewhere where you don't have that problem? If this country sucks then either you feel there is a better one or you are a bitter and sad human being.

If you feel that abortion sucks, war sucks, your local mayor sucks, burning leaves in the fall sucks, then by all means go and protest or exercise whatever other civic rights you have in order to affect change. If you think that America sucks because people burn leaves or because people smoke in bars, then your problem is solved by going elsewhere.

Once more for the people in the back. This country does not suck. Yes, It has plenty of things that we don't like about it and those things differ for each of us. Furthermore, we have the right to say and do things to fix what we see as wrong.

But if the premise of your argument is that Americas sucks because... then go where it doesn't suck.

Oh christ, i can see your point about the free encryption, are all of us xBSD people obsessing or is this a normal state of mind? ;)

I would go to... ehhh, where i am... i have all of the freedom and rights you do, and free healthcare... that and the weather is great (for me)... :)

Why don't you build your own little dictatorship somewhere, then you will have the right to tell anyone to leave?
