What do you do with that thing if your case doesn't have a 3.5" external drive bay? An adapter for one of the 5.25" bays? Why didn't they do it that way in the first place, given the obsolescence of floppy drives?

I'm not sure but I do know that several cases, including the Antec 900, come with adapters to mount a 3.5" device in a 5.25" slot. I also know that newegg carries adapters for around $20. Guess that may be your only option... or just remove one of the front panels and lay the adapter on top of a DVD drive. It would be ugly but it would work.
