Well, I got a reply from the admin about putting seti on the school computers:
Bryce,

Not knowing how Seti accesses the CPUs through the firewall, and knowing all the problems that are out there such as DoS attacks, I'm not enthused about putting any software like you describe on our computers. Please don't do that.

JJ

This is the same guy that wrote me up today for naming a publisher file "thissucksass" and told the principal i should lose my computer privileges for the month of february 🙁

God I had a bad day today 🙁

Is there a portion of the SETI FAQ that describes the intricacies of the processing and what is sent and how (what ports, how much data, etc.)?

Something like that would be very useful to the Future SETI Farmers of America!

This guy is an admin and he doesn't understand how Seti works?

He's concerned about the possibility of Ddos attacks because Seti will be running on some computers?

Not that the two are mutually exclusive but Seti doesn't poke any holes in your firewall and let the bad guys in. It sounds to me like we have another admin in over his head or he didn't want to be bothered and was giving you the brush-off.

Yeah, this guy's a pretty big ass in general. I don't know how he got that job there. One time he was in one of my classes trying to help the teacher figure out why her computer wasn't printing, so I went up there and said "Is it connected to an LPT1 port or USB?" and he said "I think LPT1." So I looked behind the computer and he yelled "What do you think you're doing?" I didn't answer and it turned out it the printer cord came unplugged from the computer, so I plugged it back in and he jerked my arm back and I said "God, I was just fixing it, that's more than you're doing." This really ticked him off and while he took me out in the hall and was yelling at me. I guess the teacher tried to print something and she walked out in the hall and said "He fixed it, leave him alone." 😛

<< Do you know what his certifications are? that would be interesting to see. >>

It's nice that one doesn't have to be certified to be an ass... 😀

<< Not knowing how Seti accesses the CPUs through the firewall >>

That the wrong way of thinking about it (and makes SETI seems worse than it is). The cpu's access SETI, not the other way around. That's a big difference in concept.

At least you tried, even considering the attitude he has. 🙂

If ya don't ask, you never will get what you want......

🙂

Now if I had figured that out back in high school......

😉😉

is it a novell network?

Go onto the novell network drive and copy the backup .sam files. Take them home and l0ft them. The next day, login as administrator and set everyones access down to the lowest you can, then proceed to redirect the workgroup around the proxy, and out to the free net.

oh yeah, and to finish is off, put laxative in your admin and principals cofee
