A #2 pencil will be too big usually. Try a .5 mechanical pencil lead, and be patient. It took me like 3-4 times to get it right, but now it has been working for 6 months, and it has recently been OC'ed to 1050 with the Taisol CGK740292.

I've heard people recommend HB because the lead is softer. This is what most mechanical pencil lead is anyway. Thats what I used with good results. 650@1050 after redoing it once, 4 months out.

Oh, and a magnifier may be helpful too!

Another thing, you may want to try holding a business card between the bridges to keep the lead seperate from each bridge.

use a mechanical pencil, it's much finer and easier to use. if you have a magnifine glass, even better. try to find one that's more conductive, the less graphite the better (art stores carry full lead pencils with no graphite). if you screw up, yes just erase the marks so none of the bridges connect with each other, that's the beauty of the pencil trick :)

Thanks guys!

I think you may have the conductive properties of graphite and lead mixed up Zero. I know graphite is VERY conductive. If you pass an electric current through graphite it becomes extremely hot and produces a VERY bright light. I haven't heard of lead possessing strong conductive properties, but I've never passed an electric current through it either. :)

yea keeksy, graphite does conduct better than lead. There are different types of 'lead' (eg: #2) that contain more graphite. I think you are supposed to go with those. I think they sell them at art stores or something... not sure though,,, never tried to unlock a cpu before =P

Since when does pencil lead have Lead in it. I'm sure it is considered the same as lead based paint, toxic. So carbon (graphite) is what is in pencil lead, and its just various compression levels to make "hardness" of lead. I apologize for any inconvience this message may of caused, it will self destruct as soon as you leave this thread. :D

open the hood on your car examine the batteries connectors
they are lead ,obviously it conducts electricity.
they have a tool for drafting to aid in erasing lines
it may also aid in producing a fine line rather than using
a business card ,it would serve as a stencil.
they cost a dollar or so at staples office max ,etc.

Lead conducts better than lead Ku? ;)

War, I think you're right about pencils not containing lead, so that shouldn't be an issue. :) Now I'm just waiting on my FOP38. :D

And most good Spark plug wires are made outta carbon. So I would assume both Lead and lead conduct. HEHE
