If you are sure they are using fraud to wind up with that money, by all means please report them. There is no reason the rest of us taxpayers should have to support their lifestyle. I hate people that cheat.

How old are you? And what evidence do you have that make you think they are committing tax fraud?

Please explain, in detail, the evidence you have that leads you to believe they are cheating.

It sounds to me like you have none.

BTW, a $4000-$6000 tax return is not all that big. All that says to me is that an upper-middle class person is overpaying on their withholding. It's nothing to brag about, as you could invest that and make money on it, rather than let the government hold it and make nothing.

That's quite true. People could get a few bonuses during the year where the taxes are witheld at higher rates - which could mean larger tax refunds. A few years back, I received some bonuses and 28% Federal tax was taken right out of the check - I didn't have an option to have less taxes witheld.

If they have a second house and are renting it out, that can generate a large depreciation loss (completely legal).

The complete cost of the house per year is deductible from the taxable income, rent is added to the income.
Then you have depreciation of the house against the income, plus any additional expenses in maintaining the house.
If a vehicle is used relating to maintanence of the house, the cost of the vehicle and operating expenses are also deductions.

Jealousy is a dangerous animal.
Be sure of your facts.
Also if you flag the IRS, they may take a look at your family.
