That's quite true. People could get a few bonuses during the year where the taxes are witheld at higher rates - which could mean larger tax refunds. A few years back, I received some bonuses and 28% Federal tax was taken right out of the check - I didn't have an option to have less taxes witheld.BTW, a $4000-$6000 tax return is not all that big. All that says to me is that an upper-middle class person is overpaying on their withholding. It's nothing to brag about, as you could invest that and make money on it, rather than let the government hold it and make nothing.
