I installed a P3-1000/133 in my ABit BF6 last night. I thought I would have to upgrade the bios first because officially the board only supports 800 mhz with the current bios. I got it to boot up, though when it posted it described it as a 500/133. I went into the soft menu, changed it to the highest user defined setting, 800 mhz. I saved the changes and when it posted again, it described it as a P-III 998 mhz.

I guess I want to make sure a) that it's actually running at the right speed and FSB and b) that it's safe to keep running it that way. ABit doesn't recommend attempting a bios upgrade unless you absolutely have to, so if it's ok to run it as is, I won't bother. Thanks.

That should be right, since all the 1ghz system i see, rounds down in computer manager as 998Mhz

It's probably safe if your agp can take it, i been running 1ghz on my bx6r2 using 133fsb for a while now.. no problems yet..

thanks for the info. But what does that mean about the AGP? Someone else said the same thing, but I don't understand how that's a problem. I'm using Herclues 3D Prophet II geforce 2, should that make any difference. I also have PC133 RAM. I guess what I want to know is, would my computer run significantly faster on a different mobo or am I getting pretty close to maximum performance now?
