617 format digital sensor with resolution of 261MP sounds just insane. If it wasn't RED, I wouldn't even consider it seriously but since it's RED, I think it's highly possible.
Even so, I just don't get how the camera will handle such a huge MP internally. Even for a still camera, that's just way too huge and we're talking about 251MP @ 25 fps! Also, what kind of computer would it take to edit those files?
All I can think is....'it's just crazy amount of MP and it's a video camera??? How is it possible?'

Does anyone know or have an idea how it's possible?

Apparently the mysterium 617 sensor has more pixels than the human eye has rods+cones

It's not schedule until spring 2010 and they hope quad 10-12 way cpu's are out by then :p

From what I have read you don't have to edit native redcode (it is not raw btw), you edit another stream thats 1/4, 1/4 or ful res. This then tranposes to the full redcode.

Even 1/4 of full res still means that every frame is around 60 megapixels. Compare this to 1080p where each frame is around 2 megapixels...

Sounds almost too good to be true
