about pproxy

I have 3 computers at home running rc5 and I think I can set up a pproxy to monitor the output of each machine? I downloaded the pproxy program, but not sure how to set it up.

Good luck! 😉

Actually, I've been putzing around with mine for the past week or so and it's pretty easy to do... I also just setup the ppstats program (the one that generates stats from a pproxy) and finally got the cron jobs working on it to update every half hour for me.

Adul wrote and is testing a real cool app that will let you create a very basic ini file for the pproxy that you can cut and paste into your own.

Hopefully he'll post a link to his latest iteration here...

Tontod,
If you are using WIndows, create a folder, unzip the download into the folder, then run:

proxyper -install

This will install it as a service.

Adul's pproxy page and discussion is here: Perproxy INI generatior

Once you have your .INI file set the way you want, go to the services panel and start the distributed.net proxy service.
(In NT4.0 Control Panel, Services, in Win2KPro, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services)

Feel free to post any questions or concerns along the way, we are here to help! 😀

I'll throw my two cents in.

I really prefer to run the pproxy as a foreground application most of the time. It will work on all Win9x and NT platforms, and since it is sitting right there on your Task Bar, you can watch as your other computers check in and fetch/flush.

Of course, it may bet boring after a while, so then you might want it installed as a service. That is an NT or Win2K thing. I don't know if Win9x will really run pproxy as a service.

All computers on the network need to have their DNETC.INI files modified to point to your pproxy computer's name or IP address.

Your pproxy's INI file is already configured to fetch and flush, plus it will adjust the size of its buffers based on the amount of work your system needs. It really is pretty smart. If you want to watch your stats on the team statsbox, you need to modify the proxyper.ini file to point to proxy.teamanandtech.com. Here's a tip: If you make a change to the pproxy INI file, you don't have to stop/start it to incorporate the changes, just do a Ctrl-Break. Don't do a Ctrl-C, that will stop the pproxy (and the client).

Now you can watch each of your computers build up stats locally, plus watch your herd of cows build up stats on
It's the stats, baby. www.teamanandtech.com

Ahhhh.... that little part in the readme was a bit confusing but thanks for clarifying that for me JonB!!!
