About People You Hang Out With...

This has been brought to my attention by family members and friends throughout the days... I'm sorry in advance if this offends anybody in anyway, shape or form.

Here's the question that has been brought to my attention:

"Do those you hang around with in public affect the way that those who see you, view you?"

For example: Lets take an AVERAGE JOE... "Does JOE hanging out with a group of really attractive people make him look worse?" or "Does JOE hanging out with a group of really ugly people emphasize his better attributes?"

Or even... "If JOE hangs around a group of really mean looking people, is he perceived as being mean as well?"

This is all superficial reactions and there will be some who argue against the, "It's what is inside that counts, etc, etc" This is merely an question that places forth opinions, thanks in advance.

If 'one' was to hang-out with idiots, people usualy think like this:

hmmm, he is with the ducks, he walks like a duck, he looks like a duck.... oh well, must be a duck.

I do not believe that hanging out with someone prettier or uglier than you will affect anyones perception, unless they are the most shallow of people. But you are judged by the company you keep in life. If you hang out with drug addicts, you will be thought of as one. Just like if all your friends are ho's, and your a woman, you will be lumped together with them by most men. Both of those scenarios I know from experience.

I dunno who really cares about it Scrapmaster... I'm just bored and figured that I might get some interesting responses w/ this. Just wondering what others think about this... I'm not trying to cause any problems 🙂

Actually, there have been fairly recent studies done about this.

If I recall correctly, the findings were that you did increase your perceived attractiveness by hanging out with more attractive people. Also, the attractiveness of your mate also has some influence on how you are seen. I'm sure you can find this somewhere... I know I just read it within the past year.

There isn't any wrong or right about it, it just is.

However, I think it is good to try to rise above this as much as possible, IMHO. We all know people who are very attractive but are mean and nasty, so good-looking does not really mean good!

Just my .02

i don't care how i'm percieved by other people. i am who i am and i don't care what they think 😛

<< i hang out with some retards, but i dont really care what people think... >>

The only one with a mental handicap is you, turd.

It does change the way others percieve you, yes. I know this from experience....I haven't changed much in the last few years, but I went from hanging out from people that wouldn't be considered "cool" to those who are, and people do percieve you differently. But all in all, it's the way YOU are. There's this one kid that no one can stand, but he insists on hanging out with us, he is the most immature, annoying kid I know, and even though he hangs out with the "cool" kids, people don't think he is one.

People are superficial because they are socalized to be that way.
Thats american culture. Western world.
Studies done are western science and medicine.
It only gets worse from here.
😉

From my vantage point it appears that those who need to be liked by others do so because they like themselves so little. Those with self-esteem have no need to seek what they already have.

I am always reminded of the saying that "Birds of a feather flock together" I dunno if that has any relevance to this topic, but I believe that it is totally unfair for ANYBODY to judge who you are based on who you hang out with. 🙂
