About OD Hot Deals - Good Info...Mods don't lock please

Just an FYI to all, I was at my local OD this afternoon getting my price differnce back on the PageWriters that I bought last week and I was talking to the Customer Service Manager...(getting to know the guy well). I asked him about any other good deals coming up and he told me that they get quarterly lists and their is a sh!tload of markdowns coming (his words) not all of the mark downs get done in a timely manner though. This is why the register may ring up differently than the shelf price at times. But to get to the point... They have been told to keep them "inline" (his words again) I asked what he meant and he said that the items will stay on the shelf after markdown... and they won't be moved to a clearance area until the final markdown....which means "dump it fast". He said that their is usually 2 markdowns before the final cut, he said this is not a hard fast rule, depends on the original price. The higher the original the more markdowns their could be(makes sense). I asked him how they could dump the PageWriters for well under cost and he said they took a loss on them last year, so anything they made on them now was profit(makes no sense to me) Just an FYI. Hopefully we have some OD peeps here that that can give us info ahead of time. Oh yeah the price difference went well.....$300+ change credited back...

They are now 29.88....bring your receipt in and get the difference credited back....as long as it is within 14 days.....

However I was told the adjustment can only be done within 7 days so I didn't get my $70 back:(

I checked their printed policy and it is true (7 days). I guess it really depends on the manager mood.

and BTW Zwingle, what are the ODs you frequent? Let me know so I will skip them on my future hunting trips.

Yes...I think you are right....but you could have threatened to return them and rebuy them at the new price....as long as it was within the 14 days....that is what they did for the price change....he returned them and then reslod them to me. I would not bring the merch in with you...they may just let you return and not rebuy though. I think it is a manager thing though. That is why I frequent 1 store. I get to know the people and it does help. I bought the pagers at another OD and got the credit at the store where I know people. Pays to be friendly. BTW...I frequent the Lemmon and Oak Lawn store. But, I hit 2 others that are also on the way home.

Pagewriter 2000X is a Motorola 2 way pager and pda in one....retail was 450.00...OD marked them down to 99.00 last week and then to 29.88 sometime this past weekend....they are selling for 200+ on egay.

Oh Man I can't believe that I missed ALL the hot OD deals in the last couple of weeks. I just heard about them a few days ago and made a last ditch effort hitting the closest few OD's to me to no avail. There was a floor model Palm VII at one but I didn't ask because I didn't think the floor models were actual working units. ARGH!

Zwingle, what he meant by the profit thing is that they wrote off their inventory at the close of the fiscal year and took a charge against their bottomline. What comes in now is written as profit for the current year. Lovely accounting.

See if you can sweettalk him into giving you a copy of the list. Buy him some Dom Perignon or something. :D

I will see what I can do about getting a copy of the list. It may take a bit more time....but it would definitaly be worth it. He said he would let me know about any deals on electronics and computer stuff, since that is what I seem to buy from them......another thing I want to poll you guys about....help me out, I am having a moral dilemma....When I got my credit on the pagers, he gave me my original reciept back AND the resell reciept....should I go to the original store and try to get the credit again? Let me know guys........

Zwingle, it might not be a good idea since there is a transaction number on the receipt and it might be visible to all the OD terminals. The manager in the other store will surely catch this if that's the case. You still want to keep a good relation with them, right? On top of that, there is always a moral issue:)

Any new deal today?

There is a transaction number, it doesn't reference anything on the original receipt, he just did a return and then resold them to me again at the new price. But who is to say I didn't buy more than what the reciept shows....or had 2 receipts for 2 separate purchases? I actually did, but lost the other receipt. I bought 1 at the location I got the credit for the 3. Geez, I sound like I am trying to talk myself into doing it.

I've had numerous opportunities to screw over the store I go to, but I'm always straight with them because they treat me very well there. I have returned numerous items without a receipt (over $300 worth the other day), and the manager didn't blink because he knows me. Quid pro quo -- treat them well and expect that in return. Cheat them and... :)

I am not going to do it......OD has been good to me and my wallet. Saved me a bunch of money and even made some from their deals.

Zwingle- Congrats on your decision not to turn criminal- I'm all in favor of grabbing as many hot deals as you can, but I'm not in favor of outright theft ;)

last nite i got that skytel pager for $19.88, down from $199.88. does any one want sku? they still have some pagewriters around here--it looks like a nice toy. but i just need a regular pager--but not sure if i want the responsibilities that come with it...
some of these monitors are clearanced also... viewsonic 17" flat for $299, but i bet whoever bought it talked the mgr into lowering the price--i would've

i thought skytel was motorola oh well, i'll check for reviews out on the net, dude that was shopping next to me for pager said he paid $200 for same a year ago before he traded up
by the way the pagewriter 2000x i saw--they said they only had the display, winchester all sold out, sorry if i misled anybody. will post location, store number and phone number so you can call and get them to send it to you(they won't lie--the prices are posted on the shelf so they must not want it)
