If I replaced a 27" CRT TV and 17" CRT Monitor that are on about 8 hours a day?

My utility bill for the past 3 months has been about $50/month. During this time, I haven't used the AC/Heater, run the dish washer about 3 times a week, do 3 loads of laundry (hang-dry).

I'm looking at getting 32" LCD and a 19" WS LCD, but I'm dragging my feet in doing it. :p

Calculate the power consumed and multiply the difference by the rate on your electric bill.

$50 dollars a month for the past 3 months, not 50 over three months.

If I save $10 a month, in a year the monitor has just about paid for itself.

You think 1/5 of your power usage comes from a TV? You should just get rid of your refridgerator Kramer-style if you want that kind of reduction from one appliance.

LOL

I'm aware the fridge takes up the most, but the TV/Computer & Monitor come in second when basically nothing else is on. I can't do much about the fridge.

GF doesn't care unless there is a TV to watch.

I'm trying to convince myself because I really want them and can afford it, but I'm such a tightwad with my $$. :p

You'd have to do calculations. If you really want to save power, switch out your computer PSU with a more efficient one, replace your monitors, do your dishes by hand... etc.

Well, I'm not sure of how much money you would save due to electric bill, but saving money will come, eventually. Not to mention, if you can afford it, and you want it, then do it. To make it easier for you to take, think of a possible way to cut costs somewhere else for a couple months...like no fast food or something like that. You deserve it, just go get them.

Go to the manufacturer's website. If it's energy star compliant, it will say how many kw it uses per year based on a set usage.

What is on 8 hrs a day? If its the Monitor, does it have any energy saving features? are you using them?

On 8 hours a day means I'm using both for 8 hours a day.
