So, my new insurance doesn't cover dental. Awesome. About how much do you think it would run me to pay out of pocket for a standard check-up/cleaning appointment?

Get a dental plan. A lot of dentists will actually offer one as well for under 200 a year. I'd expect a cleaning to be around 100 - 150 bucks.

$30 at the hospital dental department I go to. Private practice charges a lot more for no reason at all.

$0 if you have dental insurance.
Without insurance I paid $75 for the basic cleaing, and another $150 for a full "scale" cleaning after not seeing a dentist for basically 12 years.

If you've kept up on it, Id say anywhere from $50-100. If you haven't $200+.

Uhh wtf I paid $40. Go to the right places. A typical place will cost $70 - $90 or even more. If you find a dentist that's a friend of a friend, you can get some nice prices.

Of course you should get a dental plan. 2x cleanings per year for free! when my mom was off insurance between jobs we found some nice deals at a friend's dentist.

Dental Hygienists start at $65/hr around here... more experienced ones make much more. Add X-Rays and a Dentist check and it makes sense.

And to think that dental hygenist is making so much more money than most of ATOT. Not an engineer and still making so much more than they are.

Reality is a bitch.

He's in Canada so that $65/hr is equal to minimum wage here. :p Dental hygienist here start out at around $35/hour out of school and hit a ceiling around $50/hour. Which is pretty good for 2 years associate degree from a community college or technical school. If you're a female, I highly recommend this career.

As for dental cleaning and most dental work, I pay $0. One perk of having a dentist along with a hygienist in the family. :)

Cleanings aren't bad, like others have said around $100-$150. I didn't have insurance or the money to go for years. I finally became gainfully employed and got insurance. $3k AFTER insurance and two root canals later my shit is finally back to where it should be and was worth every penny.
