About how long would I be able to ask for a lower APR or higher limit?

Hi guys, I just have a question regarding asking for a lower APR or higher limit. I had my first credit card since Nov 2001. I've paid every single bill on time, with each time paying at least 50% of the balance. So I guess about half a year has passed. I was wondering about what timeframe would I usually have to wait before calling in and having my inquiry accepted? Any input is appreciated, thanks.

until you run out of time to dial that 800 number
or until you run into a nice csr

which ever one comes first.

:)

the way i see it, credit card companies are no different than staples.
keep calling back till you get what you want.

and while you're at it, ask them to price match some online APR's.

good luck

depends soley on the creditor. half a year might not be long enough for them to even consider your request. and even if they do, i'm doubtful that they'll drop it/up it substantially. in my experience, associates tend to up your limit pretty frequently. capital one finally agreed to raise my limit after 3 freakin' years. and it was only by 300 bux :p

I have had my limit increased three times in the exactly one year I've had my card:

$1,200 initially
Raised to $2,000
Raised to $2,800
Raised to $3,800

My one & only entry on my credit history, & I just hit one year a week or so ago.

Give it a shot, the worst they can tell you is no.

Not if you request them online.

;)

All my limit increases were automatic (I requested them, they gave me the amount they'd increase it by) with no credit check or phone call required.

Easiest thing to do is to tell them that you are looking accepting an offer on another credit card that offers double your current limit and offers X.X% APR. Ask them if they would like to meet the competitors rates, or if they would like you to cancel your account.

if they need a reason...
tell them you're getting married.

that works like a charm.
but i suppose you can't use that every 3 month.

if they catch up to that, then you always have 'i'm expecting a son this month' excuse.
