I've gone thru at least 3 CCFL's with the sound activating feature, and personally, I'm not pleased at all.
Of the three I've used, their 'mic' feature is very weak. I'm trying to get the lights to 'dance' to the beat of the music I'm playing (house/trance). But to even get the light beat to be somewhat accurate, I like the mic line from the cold cathode, and placed it right into my subwoofer (Creative inspire 5.1 5300). It actually looked really cool, but it being under my desk, it's hard to see it. My real intention are to put it on top of my desk, so I can watch the show 😉
OK, alright. I was hoping one of those CCFL's companies to see this thread, and create a cold cathode tube that would plug into the USB port. Then, they must have a plugin for winamp (typically a Visualization one) that outputs the 'beetz' to the tube, that'll light it up when it recieves the signal from the plugin. This way, it would eliminate the need for a microphone part. I believe this to be the most accurate way to replicate the beats of music with cold cathode lighting.
Wishful thinking? perhaps...
