? about adding new cdrw drive to old computer

I have an old computer (probably 7-8 yrs old) to which I'm trying to add a new cdrw drive. Have placed it in computer, reattached the cables, and run the new hardware wizard on Windows 2000 pro, but it's not being recognized. Any suggestions? And thanks for reading this.

double check the jumper and make sure you have BIOS set to auto detect whatever you have the drive set to. So, if you have installed it as a secondary slave, make sure the secondary slave isn't set to none in BIOS.

Also check to make sure you have the IDE cable oriented correctly. The red wire indicates pin 1. Make sure it is toward the molex plug.
