About a Jack Nicholson movie, "The Pledge" (NFS4, take note)

I know NFS4 thinks he is a great actor but has anyone seen "The Pledge"? Was on last night on HBO.

Great cast, wonderful scenery and directed by Sean Penn but WTF was up with the story and especially the ending? Was this a hollywood morality tale that he had to suffer for using the girl as live bait or what?

He also looked like sh*t as did Robin Wright but some could have been makeup.

So slow moving and moronic.

What was he thinking to have made a flic like that?

I think Jack Nicholson is a great actor, but I'll agree that The Pledge was a real stinker. It just seemed kinda pointless. I mean geez, give up your search already and get on with your life. It's like that Harrison Ford flick Random Hearts (the one where his wife dies in a plane crash and he later learns she was having an affair). I can understand that a man would be devastated if his woman died and she turned out to be a no good tramp, but it just seemed that they didn't pull it off really well. Maybe if they had gone a little more in depth about how much he loved his wife and how he would never be complete without her then you could understand his obsession with digging up the truth. The whole movie I kept thinking to myself, "give it up man, she's been cheating on you all these years and now she's dead. Just get on with your life".

Amen, Cougar.

It seems Ford is so up there they have to let him makesome of the movies he wants to make like that one and "Mosquito Coast" Same with Kevin Costner for a while and he made some real stinkers (message in a Bottle for one)

Maybe that was the case here with Jack.

That was by far the worst movie he has ever made and one of the worst I have ever seen. Plus it was kind of gross, he was old enough to be the persons grand dad ...Ewww...

Clint Eastwood and him are now to old to get jiggy with a woman in a movie..

In a movie maybe but not in real life. Since I am their age or close I know what I am talking about. A lot of younger women prefer older men, my girlfriend is 20 years younger. Of course physical condition and mental attitude enter into it.

Never seen it. It looked like it would suck, so I didn't go see it.

Everyone plays in bad movies...even the BEST actors. That's nothing new

I actually loved this movie. Hated the ending though. Jack's awesome, and he was the only rewarding part about the whole movie.

Undoubtedly the worst movie I had the misfortune of watching last year. Thank God it was a rental. If any movie was more pointless than this one I've never seen it. Calling the ending GAY is a major understatement. Nicholson's acting was good of course. The movie was slow but I was hoping for a good final build up. This movie made me actually angry I wasted the time from my life to watch it and I'll never get that time back.

The end of that movie was just a big F-YOU from the writer to the audience. I think the money they most likely lost on that pile of crap was the response. :)

Sean Penn's "The Pledge" begins as a police story and spirals down into madness. It provides Jack Nicholson with one of his best roles in recent years, as a retired cop who makes a promise and tries to keep it. Like their previous film together as director and actor, "The Crossing Guard' (1995), it isn't a simple revenge story but shows the desire for justice running out of control and becoming dangerous. The story has the elements of a crime thriller (cops, suspects, victims, clues), but finally it's a character study, and in Detective Jerry Black, Nicholson creates a character we follow into the darkness of his compulsion.
