About 802.11ac

Hey all, I just wanted to get some clarification on a specific router that I'm confused with. I've never been knowledgable with networking in general. Its always been a confusing place for me to try and get a grasp on, so I'm going to ask the experts here.

My sister wants to get a wireless router for her network and she has decided to upgrade her network to 802.11ac. This is the following router she selected:

From my limited understanding, isn't 802.11ac limited with only 5ghz frequencies? Because it looks like this router also supports 2.4ghz. Anyone can clarify as to why this can support both frequencies but the standard only supporting 5ghz only? Is it because its some sort of hybrid N router to in it? lol Thanks for any clarification anyone can give me.

That's because of backwards compatibility. An 802.11ac 867Mbit/sec AC router, can do 867Mbit/sec max over 5Ghz, but that router can also do N300, over both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, as well as B/G on 2.4Ghz.

AC speeds can only be attained with 5ghz, it still supports 2.4 for BGN
