Abominally slow Flash-drive

Uhm, slooooow! On the product page they quote ~28MB/s read and ~15MB/s write, and I get that during file transfers. What I am having trouble with is when I try to run an App off of the drive.

I get abominable performance loading programs, then during reads and writes (such as saving and loading a game, loading a new area, etc.) it takes forever. In Fallout 2 loading and saving took about 30 ~ 45 seconds, and loading in X-Com Apocalypse takes about 4 ~ 6 seconds with saving taking closer to 30 seconds. These files are between 0.8MB and 2.02MB! Some of the map files are as large as 24.7MB for X-Com, but maybe a third of that is actually read and used.

Installing Fallout 2 with a CD Image located on the thumb-drive took almost half an hour, but if I copied the image to the HDD, it would cut the installation down to less than five minutes. And that includes the copying of the image!

Any suggestions? Would any other information be helpful? Is there another forum I should be posting this in?

Thanks for any help

is your USB port powered? or is it run off something like a keyboard?
at least with the older flash drives they would either run really slow or not at all unless they ran from a direct powered USB port

No, it's off of the USB port on the computer. It is definitely USB 2.0 and powered. Also, during normal use (File transfers using windows explorer) it runs close to spec.

Well,

HDD I/O speed >> USB I/O speed

i didn't know running games off of a flash drive was something ever deemed realistic.
