Abobe Flash vs. Shockwave

I am seeking some information regarding the above. The answer may be simplified, but 'Can you install Adobe shockwave and flash, or must you use one or the other?

Thanks. I am aware of the differences, as I have visited this link already. Shockwave appears to be more suited for gaming, as Flash for video, etc. This is the way I see it. So, it's one or the other, am I correct?

First, to clarify, your talking about the Flash and Shockwave players, not the actual Flash CS5 software.

For the players, yes, they can be installed side by side. Whichever player is needed by a specific site will be used. Test it out, uninstall all Flash software and plugins and just install Shockwave. Then see if known flash sites like YouTube will play. I'm guessing it will tell you to install Flash.

Theoretically yes, but from what I have read, Shockwave is a bit more complex from a design aspect, but it does offer some features over Flash (or at least it used to). For simplicity's sake, I think more developers just go with Flash.
