Abnormally high CPU utilization when playing video -- 6800OC

Never had such high CPU usage when playing divx files. (edit: or any video files for that matter)
Is there a fix for this? Patch?

66.93 i believe

You probably missed the threads on the 68xx Nvidia GPUs. Apparently there was something wrong with the HW and video acceleration is totally borked (except for mpeg-1 which any old video card does). The 6600 series fixed the HW problem.

huh, I remember reading that...
I figured it was only encoding and WMV9 acceleration that was broken though.
Somehow I thought HD/AVI acceleration would still be present.

Well that's a kick in the nuts :/

Your 6800's Video processor is supposed to work fine because only the GT's and Ultra's VPs are broken. That's according to Anand's article on this matter.

Divx is decoded in software normally anyway (except for newer Radeons with the enabled Divx Player), and it certainly can have very high CPU utilization.......it's highly compressed. The resolution and quality will impact CPU decoding, and Divx HD @ 720p...even more so. The 6800 should perform no worse than any other card since the CPU is doing the work, (DXVA doesn't support Divx currently either AFAIK), could be the codec you're using or maybe the driver installation...could be the file itself.

AVI is just a container, it could be about any format, and HD refers to a resolution(s) rather than a format as well. So MPEG HD...yes, Divx...Mpeg4...WMV HD....no

They're ALL equally broken untill they get something to work (and all NV40 chipped cards, AGP 6800NU,AGP/PCIeGT and AGP/PCIeUltra have the exact same chip and underperform equally.) even the 6600 cards work the same as the 6800 cards currently, Purevideo works for MPEG decoding "only" at this point.

I have a question, in the huge thread about the broken VP the OP said to download and play the "Step Into Liquid" video to check if the video processor is working. I tried to play it on my PCI-e 6600GT on the 69.93 and 75.90 drivers, and the CPU utilization on both was 100%, the video was even choppy and unwatchable sometimes. My question is, isn't the 6600GT's VP supposed to work?
